The Affirmation of Intention

The Affirmation of Intention
Fashion photography has a huge influence on the way we see ourselves andthe way we live. Modern fashion imagery depicts lifestyles but also shows aperfection that doesn’t exist. Fashion photography becomes absurd withbeautiful celebrities dominating fashion and postproduction being used to make peopleseek perfection. The removal of the face is used to distract the viewer fromthe celebrity and perfection of beauty that most women desire

The Affirmation ofIntention is an investigation into the absurdity of the fashion image, how thefashion image relates to art, and how different techniques can be combined tocreate a piece of work which not only has elements of fashion but also can behung on a gallery wall as a piece of art. The result of this project is three handprinted chromogenic colour photographsmounted within Diasec panels framed to give a sense of significance thatrepresent the uncanny, the absurd, the cinematic and the lifestyles of realpeople.

The use of techniques avoiding the new age digital processes allow theimages to be shown ‘as shot’ and enable the viewer to see that imperfectionsthat can occur and to inform the viewer that what they are looking at is aphotograph not an edited unreality.
